The North Coast Tour

Category: standard

Tour Description: A tour of the northern coastal regions of the country taking in Galway, Connemara, Westport, Donegal, Belfast and Dublin. These are some of the most dramatic coastal scenes in the world with the highest sea cliffs in Europe and the awesome Giants Causeway- the 8th Wonder of the World.

Day 1

Arrive into Shannon Airport where you will pick up your car at the Hertz desk. Take the coastal route via the Burren, which is a vast, bare, eerie limestone plateau that covers much of County Clare. The limestone is deeply fissured and most of the rivers have gone underground creating an extensive cave system. The Burren is noted for the "opposite" contrasts of its flower population with Mediterranean and Alpine species flourishing side by side. The coast road south of Black Head provides a fine view of the huge boulders, deposited at the end of the Ice Age that rest on the bare limestone pavement. In fine weather the Aran Islands are visible offshore. Drive northwards via Gort to Galway the focal point of Co. Galway and the west of Ireland.
