The Story of Guinness
Guinness was originally brewed by Richard Guinness in Oakley House, Celbridge, County Kildare at the home of Bishop Arthur Price. Richard was the father of Arthur Guinness, founder of the Guinness Brewery at Jameson Gate in Dublin City. Richard’s son had been christened Arthur in honor of the family’s employer Bishop Arthur Price. Bishop Price left a sum of money in his will for young Arthur and it was this which financed the purchase of the 9,000 year lease in Dublin city for the grounds upon which the brewery now stands.
A pint of the dark beer is also known as a pint of stout. In fact in many Irish pubs a simple request for ‘a pint’ will do the trick. A tour of the Guinness Storehouse is informative and enjoyable. The view from the Gravity Bar alone is worth the visit.
