Just kick back, lie in or cast a fly
During the day, sleep (breakfast till noon), cast a fly on the river Blackwater (in season), stroll around the wooded demesne and through the glorious manicured gardens. For the active, there is a tennis court, a grass 7-a-side soccer pitch, croquet, badminton and table tennis on site. Alternatively, guided canoe trips on the river can be arranged, hiking in the nearby Knockmealdown or Galtee mountains or visit an abundance of great shopping, farmers’ markets, sporting and heritage spots nearby.
Before dinner, gather for Bertha’s Revenge Gin cocktails by the fire. The food is one of the highlights at Ballvyolane House and the menus vary with seasonal, weather and fishing conditions. Ingredients are mainly organic and much use is made of the walled-garden during the growing season.
After dinner, chat, play cards, board games or sing – it can arranged for a pianist to come and play (song sheets provided). Breakfast is served until noon every day too so you can enjoy a well-deserved lie-in.
A short hop from Cork Airport
Located only 30 minutes drive north of Cork City and 3 hours drive from Dublin, Ballyvolane is highly accessible but still feels wonderfully remote. Cork airport is only 35 minutes away and has flights coming in daily from many parts of the UK and Europe.
